The Pros And Cons Of Ornamental Grasses
The Pros And Cons Of Ornamental Grasses
Kathleen Nelson of Gaylordsville will speak to The Garden Club of Newtown about ornamental grasses this month. She will explain how to combine beautiful easy-care ornamental grasses with other plants in order to display their bold grace to full advantage. She will additionally discuss how to choose the best grasses for various garden situations and address the question of whether some grasses may become invaders in the landscape.
The public is invited to attend the lecture, which will begin at 1 pm on Tuesday, March 22, in the Olga Knoepke Memorial Room in Cyrenius H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street in Newtown. There is no charge and registration is not required.
Ms Nelson specializes in tough hardy perennials, native plants and ornamental grasses at her perennial plant nursery in Gaylordsville. She has a masterâs degree in zoology from the University of Minnesota and taught college biology for many years. After the birth of her son, who is now 24, she decided being a mom was the best thing she had ever done, insisted on staying home, and thought a nursery might be an enjoyable home business.
In addition to being a mom and running a nursery, Ms Nelson designs gardens, lectures, and teaches gardening classes at the Institute of Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook, N.Y. She is President and a founding member of a large network of gardeners, and serves on her local inland wetlands commission.
Her latest passionate area of gardening and environmental interest is the problem of invasive exotic plants in our environment.
