The Career Center publicizes all scholarships of which it is notified. A few of the scholarships, typically national ones, request that money be enclosed with the application.
The Career Center believes that students should not have to pay to apply for scholarships. If a student chooses to apply for a scholarship that charges a fee, however, the Career Center strongly advises that he or she first check its authenticity through the FTC Consumer Response Center, www.ftc.gov or 877-FTC-HELP, the National Fraud Information Center, www.fraud.org or 800-876-7060, or the Better Business Bureau, www.bbg.org or 703-276-0100.
Delta Kappa Gamma Society International â A $300 book grant will be awarded to a senior graduating from a Danbury area high school who wishes to pursue a career in the field of education. The application deadline is April 15.
Newtown Girlsâ Softball Association â One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior girl who played girlsâ softball in Newtown. A transcript and a 300-word essay are required with the application. The deadline is April 25.
Fred Davidson Memorial Soccer Scholarship â A scholarship award will provide financial assistance to high school seniors who are residents of Newtown and will continue their education after graduation. Applicants should be or have been a participant in the Newtown Soccer Club and plan to contribute to the advancement of Newtown soccer in the future and demonstrate personal qualities deserving of the award. Applications are due by April 25.
USS Connecticut Scholarship Program â This program was named for the State of Connecticutâs Flagship vessel, the submarine USS Connecticut (SSN 22). The ship presents several scholarships annually to eligible members of the present and past crew or their dependents, AND to eligible citizens of the state who plan to study at a Connecticut college or university. Last year 14 merit scholarships were awarded: three to dependents of the shipâs crew and 11 to Connecticut residents who planned to attend college in Connecticut. All scholarship awards are based on a combination of academic merit and involvement in relevant academic, civic, professional and cultural organizations. The application deadline is April 15.
