Investigation Into Dodgingtown Accident Continues
By Andrew Gorosko
A police accident investigation continued this week as a Dodgingtown woman was recovering from injuries that she received early this month, when she was struck by an automobile as she walked on Flat Swamp Road.
Linda Lubinsky, 44, of 73 Flat Swamp Road was transported to Danbury Hospital following the accident, which occurred near Flat Swamp Roadâs intersection with Jangling Plain Road. Ms Lubinsky, who was listed as a patient in good condition on March 9, has been discharged from Danbury Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.
At about 5:35 pm on March 3, as it was getting dark, motorist Justin Shemonsky, 16, of Bethel was driving a 2002 Toyota Corolla sedan northward on Flat Swamp Road. Ms Lubinsky had walked into the northbound lane from the northbound road shoulder and was struck by the car, according to a police report.
Police said the impact occurred near the driveway entrance to Ms Lubinskyâs residence. The accident apparently occurred while the woman was walking on the street to retrieve mail from her mailbox, police said.
Police this week were continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the accident, which left Ms Lubinsky with two broken legs.
Police Lieutenant James Mooney said police were gathering data to be used to analyze the crash. Patrol Officer William Hull is the lead investigator.
âItâs currently under investigation. The [accident] reconstructionists are currently looking at all available data,â Lt Mooney said.
Sergeant Aaron Bahamonde was the shift supervisor when the accident occurred.
âMeasurements and evidence were collected at the scene,â he said. Evidence in the case includes skid marks on the pavement and accident impact marks, he said. The evidence gathered from the scene will be analyzed in seeking to determine who is at fault in the case, he said.
The investigation includes mathematical analysis of the accidentâs dynamics, as well as a witnessâs account of what occurred, Sgt Bahamonde said.
âItâs very time consuming,â he said, noting that thoroughness is an important aspect of such investigations. âItâs a slow, tedious process,â he added.
Sgt Bahamonde said he expects the police investigation into the accident to be completed in about two weeks. Detective Robert Koetsch will be aiding Officer Hull in reviewing the accident evidence, Sgt Bahamonde said.
