Audubon Lecture At The Libraryââ
Tracking Dinosaurs
In Connecticut
The Lillinonah Audubon Society (LAS) will sponsor a program at C.H. Booth Library on Thursday, March 24, at 7:30 pm, on the topic of prehistoric Connecticut and what the study of paleontology (fossilized plants and animals) reveals about the Nutmeg Stateâs natural history.
The talk features Brendan Hanrahan, author and publisher of the Road to Discovery Series of guidebooks about Connecticutâs natural history. Mr Hanrahan will give a slide presentation about past and present discoveries, and he will share intriguing stories about 19th Century farmers and quarrymen who were the first to find dinosaur tracks in this state.
Mr Hanrahan will also recount stories of the scientific pioneers who began the study of dinosaurs, and of the modern-day paleontologists who are continuing their work. He will discuss the evolutionary link between dinosaurs and modern birds, and explain why dinosaur tracks might someday be found in the local area.
The Road to Discovery guidebooks will be of interest to parents, teachers, and others who want to learn more about Connecticutâs natural and geological history. The books will be available for purchase at Thursday eveningâs presentation.
LAS members and the public are invited for refreshments at 7:30 pm and the program will begin at 8 pm; no one will be admitted after the program begins. There is no charge for this program.
