DUI Arrest

Police report they stopped motorist William Alamo, 28, of Bridgeport about 9 pm on March 11 on Currituck Road, near its intersection with Stony Brook Road to investigate.

Police said they had seen the westward Alamo driving a vehicle with equipment violations at high speed and also saw him passing another vehicle in a no-passing zone.

After investigating, police arrested Alamo, charging him driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, passing in a no-passing zone, failure to carry a driver's license, failure to have working headlamps, and failure to have working tail lamps.

Following arrest processing on the six charges, police released Alamo on $500 bail for an arraignment before a judge on March 24 in Danbury Superior Court.

Welders Stolen

Police report they learned about 9 am on March 6 that someone had stolen two welding machines from 188 Mt Pleasant Road sometime between and March 4 and March 6.

The estimated loss due to the theft is $7,000, police said. Both of the welders were Miller-brand devices. One is the Bobcat model and the other is the 350 model.

Both machines are blue. They are both freestanding devices that are mounted on wheels for portability. Each welder is about three feet tall and about five feet long. Each device weighs about 300 pounds.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the theft to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Three Charges

Police report that at about 2:22 pm on March 11, they stopped motorist Brandon Brewster, 20, of New Preston near the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Clearview Drive to investigate.

After investigating, police charged Brewster with speeding, driving with a suspended license, and failure to renew a vehicle registration.

Police report they released Brewster for a March 29 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

I-84 Rollover

State police report that motorist Anthony Mackey, 52, of The Bronx, N.Y., was driving a 2016 Ford Expedition SUV westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, at about 2 am on March 12, when he fell asleep at the wheel and the SUV drove off the right road shoulder, entered a heavily wooded area and then rolled over onto its driver's side.

State police said that both Mackey and Ford passenger Latasha McCrimmon, 35, of Brooklyn, N.Y., received minor injuries and were transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked.

State police said they issued Mackey an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Car Onto Median

State police said motorist Taylor Doyle, 20, of Southbury was driving a 2009 Honda Civic westward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 9, about 8:50 am on March 11, when she failed to negotiate a curve in the road and then entered the highway median, damaging about 70 feet of flex-beam guardrailing before spinning about and coming to rest.

There were no injuries. State police issued Doyle an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane.

Newtown Police Department will be taking a no-excuses approach to seatbelt law enforcement, writing citations day and night, during the current Click It Or Ticket seatbelt use campaign.
