A True Hometown Hero
To the Editor:
Last Saturday, March 7th the United Way of Western Connecticut hosted its Hometown Hero Benefit Dinner. Among the 14 recipients of this honor was Newtown’s own Robert Geckle. We have known Bob Geckle for many years – both as friend and colleague, and could not be more pleased with this honor having been bestowed upon him.
The list of his accomplishments would far exceed the word count for a commentary such as this one, and, indeed, if anyone would like that list you can go to the United Way website and look for his profile. What you will see on that page is work that Bob has done for the community; with an open heart and without seeking any reward other than knowing that he is serving the community that he so loves. Both Bob and his wife, Kathy, have given so freely of their time and energy –without need for personal reward other than the joy of knowing they are helping strengthen their beloved town – that we felt the need to chime in and say, “way to go, United Way, for honoring Bob” and to thank him, and Kathy, for all they do to ensure that our town – our community – remains strong, loving and successful.
