BOSTON, MASS. â An all-new art and design show for Boston launches April 3â6, when Fusco & Four, producers of the Boston International Fine Art Show (BIFAS), present AD 20/21: Art & Design of the 20th & 21st Centuries, at the Cyclorama, Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont Street in Bostonâs South End.
With 40 fine art galleries and design exhibitors of the highest quality from across the United States and Europe, the show will include major decorative arts movements such as Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Scandinavian Design, and Midcentury Modern side-by-side with Twenty-First Century fine art and design. The show will feature furniture, glass, ceramics, decorative arts, jewelry, as well as an array of paintings, sculpture, prints and photography from the last 108 years.
Show hours are: Friday, 1 to 9 pm, and Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm. Friday evening from 5 to 9 pm is âNew Collectorsâ Night,â with a reception and special programs designed to introduce new collectors to the world of modern art and design. Admission at the door or in advance is $15 (under 12 free), and includes a complimentary 96-page catalog and readmission throughout the weekend. The show opens with a gala preview to benefit the Boston Architectural College on Thursday, April 3, from 5:30 to 9:30 pm. Tickets are $100 and $250. To order, or for more information, 617-585-0284 or www.the-bac.edu.
Friday evening programs include, at 5:30, âA Virtual Walking Tour of Art Deco in Boston,â presented by Tony Fusco, president of the Art Deco Society of Boston; and at 6:30, âThe Art of Collecting Photography,â presented by Tony Decaneas of Bostonâs Panopticon Gallery.
On Sunday, at 12:30 pm, Boston Architectural College will present its 16th annual Cascieri Lectureship in the Humanities, with guest speaker Christy MacLear, executive director of the Philip Johnson Glass House in New Canaan, Conn. At 2:30, âLondon Art Deco,â a slide lecture on Londonâs rich Art Deco architectural heritage, will be presented by Arnold Schwartzman, author of the book London Art Deco.
Concurrent to the show and on view through April 5 is âKinesthetics: Modernist Design 1925â2000,â â an exhibition of modernist furniture design hosted by Boston Architectural College at the McCormack Gallery, 320 Newbury Street ground floor gallery.
Among the modernist exhibitors in the show are: Geoffrey Diner Gallery, which will exhibit postwar design including furniture by George Nakashima; Greg Nanamura, featuring Art Deco and Midcentury furnishings; James Infante, specializing in the Vienna Secession; Titus Omega, specializing in Art Nouveau and Art Deco decorative arts; Didier Antiques, Â artist-designed jewelry; Alastair Crawford, George Jensen silver; Jason Jacques, Art Nouveau ceramics; and 4 PM, Midcentury Modern furniture and Scandinavian ceramics.
Contemporary fine art and design will be presented by Holsten Galleries, Lanoue Fine Art and Kulin Modern.
Fine art galleries include Bernard Goldberg Fine Arts, Thomas Veilleux Gallery, Susan Teller Gallery, David Lusenhop Fine Art, International Poster Gallery and Panopticon Gallery.
