Randy Lewis
1945 to 2022
Randy Lewis, 77, a long-time resident of Newtown, Conn., passed away on March 11, 2022, at Regional Hospice of Connecticut. Randy leaves his wife of 52 years, Susan; his two daughters, Karen (David Pardoe) and Sarah (Robert McElhinney); grandsons, Jack and Sam; and his sister, Kate.
Born Charles Randall Lewis in East Lansing, Mich., on March 4, 1945, to the late Dr Charles and Anna Jean (Robertson) Lewis, Randy grew up in Oak Park, Ill., and graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School before attending the University of Virginia, where he cultivated his love of Civil War history and the Blue Ridge Mountains. After UVA he volunteered for the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War.
For more than 40 years, Randy and his family enjoyed life in Newtown. His career in sales and estate planning included years at Northwestern Mutual, Cigna, and the Union Savings Bank Trust department as senior vice president. Randy contributed generously to his community through many organizations and served in various capacities, including MCCA (Midwestern Connecticut Council on Alcoholism) for 27 years, lately as chairman of the board. He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown, where he served on the vestry and several committees. He extended his love of UVA to the Fairfield County UVA Club, where he served as president and reestablished a memorial scholarship to encourage new students.
A voracious reader, Randy enjoyed talking about history, politics, and current events and never missed an opportunity to visit Mory’s in New Haven, the Tombs in Georgetown, or the George Washington Tavern in Washington Depot. More than anything, Randy loved spending time with his family. He cherished visits with his grandsons and daughters, and took many adventures with his wife, Sue. Together they loved to watch the wildlife in Captiva, smell the boxwood in Virginia, explore the National Seashore on Cape Cod, and simply enjoyed each other’s company on their many road trips.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown, Conn.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Regional Hospice of Connecticut, regionalhospicect.org.
