Head O’ Meadow Students Celebrate Writing

By Eliza Hallabeck

In the rooms of Head O’ Meadow second grade teachers Sara Washicko, Karen Dreger, and Amy LaRusso, on Wednesday, February 29, students read to their fellow students, parents, and teachers.

After the second grade students watched  interactive DVD lessons created by children’s author Lester Laminack, the young writers explored different writing techniques, according to the teachers.

When their work was completed, the teachers hosted a Writer’s Celebration at which each student’s work was shared.

Head O’ Meadow Principal Barbara Gasparine said the new Writer’s Celebration is the culmination of the district’s focus on writing during professional learning communities over the past two school years. The days for professional learning, Ms Gasparine said, allow teachers to hone their skills and focus on what is best for the students.

“Today was a wonderful opportunity for the students to share their work,” said Ms Gasparine.
