Don't Change The Liquor Laws
Donât Change The Liquor Laws
To the Editor:
I wish to bring to light the unnecessary hardship that will result if Governor Malloyâs plan to overhaul the liquor licensing system proceeds. Does the threat of 7,000 lost jobs mean nothing to the governor in this state during a slow, hard recession? Does he really think his stats are correct about the amount of over-the-state-line sales occurring? From sources in the wholesale distributorship side, I understand the numbers are very largely inflated, but he refuses to hear the numbers offered by the trade.
Or perhaps heâs been unfairly influenced by his close friend of many years, the owner of Bevmax, who stands to reap the profits after loss of the mom and pop stores throughout Connecticut?
Is this move a ârewardâ for the big box storesâ support of his campaign, or are the odds just in his favor for their generous largesse the next time he runs for office?
How in conscience can the politicians in office put their own welfare first over the hardworking citizenry of Connecticut? How, Governor Malloy, do you look at yourself in the mirror without any qualms of conscience ? Why are you so convinced that you know best for we the citizens?
We respectfully request that you not enact this at a time when so many are suffering financially.
