Business name: Busy Minds Box

Address: Online business based in Newtown

Owners: Kristina Lubofsky

What is your business background? I have had three grandparents diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. It inspired me to become a gerontologist, or someone who studies the aging process. I decided to focus on dementia care and brain health, since I help take care of my grandmothers and helped care for my grandfather before he passed.

Shortly after my grandmother was diagnosed, I noticed she seemed very bored, lonely, and was diagnosed with depression. I woke up one day and thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if someone sent activities to help people maintain their brain health and improve their mood?” That is how the idea for Busy Minds Box started, and I officially launched it in October 2021.

What is your business’ focus? Busy Minds Box is a monthly subscription activity box for older adults. Each one is designed to promote brain health in seniors through learning experiences and meaningful activities.

Learning is one of the best ways to keep your brain healthy. Perfect for aging parents and grandparents, we learn about a new topic together every month to help keep our minds sharp and healthy! Every product in the box ties into whatever the theme is. Last month it was “Strings and Things,” so we learned all about string and each product in the box related to it in some way. We also partner with a small business every month, so we partnered with a knitting business to create a custom activity.

What is something important to you that readers know about your business? I really want to create awareness around brain health and how it can be fun and rewarding. Our brain controls everything we do, so we owe it to ourselves to take care of it. We are living longer than ever before and with that comes an increased risk for dementia, so brain health is more important than ever before.
