Randy Karl Mas

Randy Karl Mas, age 16, of the Stevenson section of Monroe, died March 13 in Bethel.

Born in Danbury, he was a lifelong Monroe resident, and was a tenth grade student at Masuk High School. He worked as a mechanics assistant for Davis Tree & Logging Co. Randy was a member of the Auto Club at Masuk, and the Beacon Hill Youth Group. He enjoyed the outdoors, motorcycles, boating, jet skis, motor cross and model building. He was “a great kid” and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving parents, his mother, Karla Welch and her husband “Duck” of Monroe, and his father, Ken Mas and his wife Vicky, of Davenport, Fla.; two sisters, Sara and Darcy Mas, his paternal grandmother, “Grammie” Gail Mas of Monroe; maternal grandparents, “Grandma” and “Papa” Roberta and Vilmos Pothanszky; and great-grandfather, “Grampie” William Sarkozi, all of Sandy Hook, as well as grandparents Annie and Ralph Heymesfeld of Barton, Vt. and Farrel Welch of Palmetto, Fla.; an aunt, Robin Pothanszky; an uncle, Karl Sieling, and his wife Cathy, all of Sandy Hook; an aunt, Joann Fredericks of Monroe; cousins Ashley, Mandy, and Billy; and his many friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 17 at 11 am in the Beacon Hill Evangelical Free Church, with the Reverend Lucia Farley officiating. Committal will be private and at the convenience of his family.

Calling hours were scheduled Thursday, March 16, from 4 to 8 pm in the Lesko-Miner Funeral Home, 155 Main Street (Route 25) in Monroe.

In lieu of flowers, his family would prefer donations to the Randy Karl Mass Scholarship Fund, to be established in his honor.
