On Wednesday, March 26, 6:30 pm, at Newtown Community Center, Jennifer Heaton-Jones, executive director of the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (HRRA), and a representative from Public Works will inform the public about the changes coming to the Newtown Transfer Station on July 1.

The Transfer Station is implementing a new save-as-you-throw (SAYT) program that will waive the permit fees and include town-branded blue bags. This information session is an opportunity for everyone to understand the new program and have good information regarding the changes.

There will be more information sessions in case readers cannot attend this first one. The next session is planned for Tuesday, April 1, at 6:30 pm, also at the community center.

There will also be a Lunch & Learn focused on the SAYT program at Newtown Senior Center on Thursday, April 24, beginning at noon. Registration is required for anyone planning to attend that session. Nonmembers can register by calling 203-270-4310.

The final PAYT information session will be Saturday, May 3, at 10 am, at the senior center as well.

For more information about the program, visit newtownbee.com and search for the topic to find stories on this subject or visit hrra.org/information-newtown-sayt.
