Socks are one of the most requested items from service men and women. With that in mind, members of Newtown United Methodist Church Mission and Outreach have partnered with Soldiers Angels to conduct a Warm Feet for Warriors drive through the end of the month.

A collection box has been placed in the narthex of the church, 92 Church Hill Road.

All adult sizes and many styles are welcome: low, high and ankle; decorative or plain; white or colored; dressy or casual; male and female.

Lynette Daria, who is leading the NUMC effort, said diabetic and gripper socks are also welcomed.

“All donations will be distributed to deployed service members and those in VA hospitals,” she said last week.

Soldiers Angels has a national goal to collect 75,000 by the end of the month, Daria noted. Last year’s goal of 50,000, according to the organization’s website, was blown “out of the water, collecting 88,785 pairs” of new socks.

Those who would like to donate should visit the church on Tuesday and Friday between 9:30 am and noon, when the collection box is accessible. Donations will also be accepted Sundays between 8 am and 1 pm until March 26.

Socks collected at NUMC will be shipped to Soldiers Angels in Texas on Monday, March 27, according to Daria.

For those who prefer, Soldiers Angels has an Amazon gift registry available. Visit SoldiersAngels.org for additional information, additional suggestions and the Amazon link. For additional information about the local collection contact the Newtown United Methodist Church office at 203-426-9998.
