A memorial service for Steven Vass will take place Saturday, March 19, at 1 pm, in the United Church of Christ, 283 Main Street North, Southbury. Mr Vass, 86, a former longtime resident of Newtown, was the husband of the late Helen (Szogedi) Vass, and died February 13 in Winter Haven, Fla. He was born in Miskolc, Hungary, March 19, 1929, son of the late Maria (Toth) and Istvan Vass.

His daughter Maria Platt, and her husband Gary, of Southbury; his sister Aliz Meszaros of Budapest, Hungary; his son-in-law Louis Szucs of Winter Haven; six grandchildren, Phillip, Jonathan, and Jacob Platt, all of Southbury, Michael Szucs, and wife Rhonda, of Atlanta, Christopher Szucs, and wife Amy, of Winter Haven, and Jessica Szucs Scavone, and husband John, of Trumbull; five great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews survive Mr Vass.

Besides his wife, his daughters Rozalia Szucs and Maria Vass, son Steven, grandson Steven Platt, and his brothers Laszlo, Gyorgy, and Andras Vass predeceased him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice.
