Traffic Enforcement Project Continues

In their continuing selective traffic enforcement program, Newtown police issued numerous violations to motorists in various locations on March 6.

Between 6 and 10 am that day, police stationed themselves on Elm Drive, Meadow Brook Road, Queen Street, and High Rock Road. There they handed 12 speed violations, one violation for failure to obey traffic signs and markings, and one violation for faulty automotive equipment, police said.

Also, between 4 and 8 pm that day, police positioned themselves on Main Street, Currituck Road, and Queen Street for traffic enforcement.

During that period, police issued eight speed violations, three violations for illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving, and three miscellaneous violations. Additionally, police issued 28 automotive equipment violations.

In the traffic enforcement campaign, police are more strictly enforcing laws against speeding, aggressive driving, and distracted driving.
