More Misinformation
More Misinformation
To the Editor:
Last weekâs Bee article [âCouncil Adopts Five-Year Capital Planâ] had yet another example of misinformation being sent out to the public. A PTA and/or Board of Education person sent e-mails to school supporters persuading them to come to the Legislative Council meeting and defend the high school addition because a group of seniors might be present advocating for a new senior center. Actually including the funds for the rec/senior project in no way compromised the proposed borrowing for the high school. In the article, Board of Education member Lillian Bittman said that âshe knew the original information was not completely accurate, but.â There is no but. If you know information is not accurate, then keep it to yourself. The only way the high school project will not go forward is if the taxpayers vote against it in April.
Our elected and appointed volunteer town officials have a hard enough job without constantly having to deal with a misinformed public.
The IPN used the e-mail game a lot during the recent elections trying to convince voters that if a building at Fairfield Hills were renovated for a decent town hall to finally house all of the town offices in one place, it would affect the proposed high school project. Also not true, but once something gets out there in the public, it becomes gospel.
