Eighth Annual Great Pootatuck Duck Race
Is In The Planning Stages
As the Lions Great Pootatuck Duck Race committee recently met and began numbering over 2,000 rubber ducks, enthusiasm was running high. They were excited because they were planning the eighth annual great Pootatuck Duck Race, an eagerly anticipated family day.
Determined to make this event as great as possible are chairman Bob Schmidt, and fellow Lions George Arfaras, Fred Stakel, Kevin Corey, Bill Denlinger, Roger Capobianco, Mike Savanelli, Lincoln Sander and Gordon Williams.
This yearâs Duck Race will be held from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, May 24, at Mike Porcoâs grounds on Glen Road. In addition to the great event itself, participants will find magicians, face painters, musicians, singers and dancers roaming the ground.
A number of childrenâs games including a moon bounce will be available. In addition, there will be many booths sponsored by community groups, who will be talking about the volunteer opportunities their committee would provide and/or selling fundraising items.
Twenty or more prizes will be awarded once the ducks race along the Pootatuck and cross the finish line. First prize this year will be a 42-inch Sharp 1080p flat screen HDTV with surround sound DVD player and a three year warranty, second prize is a weekend in new York with hotel, theater tickets and dinner, third prize a Sapphire in-office teeth whitening, and fourth prize a Sharp Blu Ray High Def DVD player.
âFor years this event has pleased an ever growing number of Newtowners. I hope this year to make the Great Pootatuck Duck Race better than ever,â said Mr. Schmidt.
