CWU World Day Of Prayer Celebrated

The Children’s Choir of Newtown United Methodist Church (NUMC) was the highlight of Church Women United-Newtown’s celebration of the World Day of Prayer on March 7 at the Methodist church. Nearly 50 men, women, and children attended the late afternoon event.

The celebration began with the children marching in singing “Kumbaya,” led by Beverly Dahlstrom and accompanied by the Reverend Sue Klein. “Song of Greeting,” suggested by the women of Guyana, who wrote the ceremony, was the next in the program by the choir.

Women from the Newtown unit of CWU presented the program, based on Scripture (Job 5:8–9, Job 28: 20–28, and Luke 10:38–42), read by the Reverend Terry Pfeiffer of NUMC. The Reverend Janice Touloukian, associate pastor of Newtown Congregational Church, and NUMC associate pastor the Reverend Dick Yerrington also participated.

The program was coordinated by Linda Manganaro, CWU celebrations chairman.

Participants sang many songs, all accompanied by Rev Klein. Children participating were Tami Corsi, Lexi Rodriguez, Elizabeth Wolf, Tessa Leon-Gambetta, Robyn Gaines, Maddi Marlin, Anna Steare, Kayla Licursi, and Kayla McClay. The closing hymn was “I’ve Got Peace Like a River.”

CWU unit participants were Jean Conover, Jeane Roberts, Barbara Gates, Millie Anderson, Carol Mattegat, Norma Gray, Mrs. Manganaro, and Darlene Jackson, representing the Newtown member churches, St Rose Roman Catholic Church, Newtown Congregational Church, Newtown United Methodist Church, Christ the King Lutheran Church, and Trinity Episcopal Church.
