CACLD Offers Free Tax Guide For Parents
The Connecticut Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities is offering the 2007 edition of Tax Guide for Parents, a comprehensive brochure detailing the potential allowable tax deductions incurred with a child or adult with learning disabilities. This guide can assist parents in understanding how expenses such as diagnosis, tutoring, medical treatments, evaluations, transportation, equipment, and supplies can be deducted.
Organized in 1963, the Connecticut Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities (CACLD) is a regional, nonprofit organization that supports individuals, families, and professionals by providing information, education, and consultation while promoting public awareness and understanding. The association is a resource for individuals, families, and professionals. CACLDâs goal is to ensure access to the resources needed to help children and adults with learning disabilities and attention deficits achieve their full potential.
Michael Niedermeier, certified public accountant and managing principal of Nishball, Carp, Niedermeier, Pacowta & Co., PC, a full service certified public accounting firm located in Shelton and Waterbury, said in a recent press release that most people are not aware of the available deductions allowed by the law.
The Tax Guide for Parents lists not only medical expenses parents are entitled to deduct, but educational services, transportation services, professional services, evaluations, laboratory examinations, and tests that are eligible for deductions.
Mr Niedermeier added, âWe would always recommend consulting a professional such as a certified public accountant or the IRS with any additional questions or clarification.â He emphasized the importance of maintaining detailed documentation in the form of cancelled checks or descriptive receipts for services received in the event of examination by the Internal Revenue Service.
The Tax Guide for Parents can be obtained by sending a stamped, self-addressed business size envelope to: CACLD/ Tax Guide, 25 Van Zant Street, Suite 15-5, East Norwalk CT 06855.
