The Big Red and Pacers are heading to the championship game of the Newtown Youth Basketball League Junior Girls division. The Big Red defeated the Huskies, 36-15, and the Pacers defeated the Huskies, 32-31, in semifinal action last weekend.

The championship game will be held Saturday, March 15, at 9 am, at Newtown High School.
Monica Strezelecki canned 16 points and Renata Villarreal added eight to pace the Big Red while Diana Curcuruto was solid on defense. For the Huskies, Elizabeth LaPerch and Michelle OâRourke combined for 10 points while Marina Virgalla and Katie Datin had all-around good games.
The Pacers got 10-point efforts from Moira Collier and Katie Power in their win over the Blue Devils, as well as strong rebounding efforts from Mandy Nostrand and Jill Tennan. For the Devils, Erica Vacaro canned 11 points and Mary Kate Cozens added six. Gabby Allen and Rachel Marlin were outstanding on defense.
In Junior Boys quarterfinal action â
Mike Murphy popped in 12 points and Jared Modzelewski added nine to lead the Hornets to a 49-36 win over the Wizards. Colin Babbage made six steals and Joe Greenfield grabbed 10 rebounds. For the Wizards, Joe Collins had 11 points and Nick Maurer had eight. Ryan Hudock made four steals.
Matt Mascolo and Aron Fay combined for 28 points to lead the Lakers to a 38-36 win over the Bulls. Brett Mauro dished off seven assists, Nick Urso had seven steals, and Ryan Boucher grabbed 10 rebounds. For the Bulls, Jared Miller had 10 points and Tony Gallucci had six.
Joe DeVellis poured in 26 points to lead the Celtics past the Timberwolves. Evan Arnold had a solid effort for the Celtics while Michael Klein (14 points), Joe Curran and Ryan Wilson played well for the T-Wolves.
Erich Dinnan scored 21 points to lead the Yellow Submarines to a 37-21 win over the Huskies. John Koslov, Kurtis Liska, and Jonathan Zigman all played well for the Subs. For the Huskies, Anthony Klabonski canned six points as Matt Yakush and Wilson Davidson played well.
In Intermediate Girls semifinal action â
Belle Hydock and Kasey Schulz combined for 27 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 35-29 win over the Suns. Erin Fish played well. For the Suns, Jen Brewer had 23 points and Jane Cozens dragged down 10 rebounds.

Elizabeth LaPerch scored 15 points to lead the Huskies to a 27-21 victory over the Celtics. Katie Datin, Bethany Morin and Libby Maret played well. For the Celtics, Rachel Maley and Joanna Barry combined for 11 points while Holly Conrad and Jen Blauvelt played well.
Kristen Gucciardo scored nine points and Lindsey Greene and Addy Fulmer combined to pull down 12 rebounds to lead the Big Red to a 31-14 win over the Thunderbolts. Fulmer also had three blocked shots and Diana Curcuruto played well on defense. For the âBolts, Lauren Clark popped in six points and Kyle Kennedy sparked the defense.
Moira Collier and Jackie Petrasanta combined for 20 points and Kelly Fagan dished off 10 assists to lead the Pacers to a 31-16 win over the Magic. Marissa Bobkowski played well. For the Magic, Sarah Peters canned eight points and Kristie Uniacke pulled down eight rebounds. Jamie Marcucilli and Kelly Ann Murphy played well.

Joe Cappiello poured in 19 points and Harrison Gillis chipped in with 12 to lead the Celtics to a 42-24 win over the Knicks. Mike Locorotondo and Brandon Bennett played well.
Jamie Vavrek scored 14 points and Brian Reszoly made 10 steals to lead the Bullets to a 40-17 win over the Bulldogs. Sam Kerr dished off five assists and Spencer Scott pulled down eight rebounds. For the âDogs, Brendan Blawie had 14 points while Ben Kaye, Matt Hill and Michael Coyle played well.
Brian Murphy popped in eight points and Max Muraskiewicz grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Rockets to a 25-22 win over the Huskies. Zachary Bryan and RJ Swift played well. For the Huskies, Kyle Droniak canned six points while Trevor Todd and Robbie Blanc combined for eight more. Ralph Sergiovanni and Jamey Tibbetts played well.
Pete Wlasuk notched 12 points and Mark Scheunemann chipped in with seven more to lead the Lakers to a 38-32 win over the Grizzlies. Eric Thornberg dished off seven assists and Kevin Walsh grabbed eight rebounds. For the Grizzlies, Matt Narel canned 14 points and Tyler Edwards added 13. Eric Rardin and Anthony Gruce played well.
The Johnnies defeated the Fighting Squirrels 42-38 despite a 10-point effort from Nahba Brophel and a 13-rebound effort by Kyle McNamara. Kevin McCarthy and Rob OâDonnell also played well for the Squirrels.
