The 16th Annual NYS Talent Show â Show time is Friday, May 9, at 7 pm, with dress rehearsal on Wednesday, May 7.

Auditions will be held on Tuesday and Thursday, March 25 and 27, from 3 to 5 pm, and Monday and Wednesday, March 31 and April 2, from 4 to 6 pm. There are no auditions on March 24. Please call 270-4335 to set up your audition time. There will be a $5 registration charge per person payable at dress rehearsal.

Parent Programs

Moms Groups â Groups will being the first week in April.

Moms of Babies â Birth to 12 months, Wednesday, April 2, from 9:30 to 10:30 am.

Moms of Children 12 to 18 Months â Thursday, April 3, 9:30 to 10:30 am.

Parents of Children with Learning Differences ââ Meets every other Monday. Next meetings will be March 17 and 31, from 9:30 to 10:30 am.

Be Aware: Heroin on the Rise â Presented by John Hamilton on Wednesday, April 2, in the Memorial Room. Parents program will begin at 7 pm and concerned students will meet at 8:15 pm. Please call to register for this important program.

Ongoing Groups

New Format for Fathersâ Group with Frank Oliveria ââ Saturday, April 12, at 10 am. Fathers, bring your children and share your common parenting experiences. This is a great way for babies and toddlers to get out with their dads.

Moms of Multiples ââ Will meet on Thursday, March 21. Please call to register.

Working Moms ââ Meets the first Saturday of the month at 10 am. Next group is April 5.

Youth Programs

4-H ââ Grades 1â4 meet on Tuesdays at Wesley Learning Center at the Methodist Church on Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook from 3:30 to 5 pm. Grades 5â8 will now meet Saturdays, 10 am to noon, at NYS. Call 270-4335 to sign up.

SibShops ââ Meets on the third Thursday of the month from 3:45 to 5:30 pm at the middle school. The March meeting will be on March 20.

Children of Divorce ââ Grades 2â5, Mondays from 6 to 7 pm, will be held at NYS. The next group will meet on March 10. Please call to register.

HSYAB (High School Community Service Group) ââ Meets on Monday, March 31, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

MSYAB (Middle School Community Service Group) ââ YAB will meet on Wednesday, March 19, from 4 to 5 pm.

NYCAAP (AIDS Awareness Group) ââ Meets every Wednesday from 5:45 to 6:45 pm.

AIDSWEAR ââ Meets every Monday from 5:15 to 6:15 pm.

ABC (Anti-Boredom Club) ââ Please call for dates.

Nobody is suggesting shutting the doors on new neighbors. What neighboring towns are doing, and what we should be doing too, is to tap the brakes on all of the multi-family residential development proposals so that we can spend 6 months updating our regulations such that if you want to build dense residential housing here, XX percent of it needs to be affordable (we will never make any headway on increasing our percentage of affordable housing otherwise, short of 8-30g), and the rest needs to be done in as low an impact manner as possible. Low impact on traffic, health & safety, the environment and on the cost of town services.

Ned, please familarize yourself with 8-30G, and then please share the unique flaws that may be helpful in formulating a denial An 8-30g project can be denied only on very narrow grounds – i.e., if it presents health, safety or other concerns that exceed a town’s need for affordable housing. According to the TOG website, “projects cannot be rejected for incompatibility with a Town’s Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD); density; traffic congestion; height; aesthetics; concerns of neighbors or the community; and failure to comply with local zoning regulations.” 8-30g proposals are rarely denied by planning and zoning officials because the burden of proof on appeal is on the town. Appeals are costly, but a municipality can be successful in a court case if it has sufficiently established that the concerns leading to denial are factual and substantive.

P&Z Should Reject Vessel Proposal

The town should certainly measure its performance against the statewide strategies. Unless I missed it I only know of one small cluster of homes that would meet the affordable housing program. Given the 500 or so new units being added in the last 10 years I think that 4/500 would not meet the metric to allow for a moratorium. I mean, fingers crossed for a Christmas miracle but I suspect we will see a few 8-30's sent our way in a method to avoid the Nimby mob. Thanks, Nimby mob.
