Music On A Classical Guitar

RIDGEFIELD — Music for the classical guitar will be performed at the Sunday Afternoon Concert Series of St Stephen’s Church in Ridgefield on Sunday, March 16, at 4 pm. The church is at 351 Main Street (Route 35).

Classical guitarist Timothy Lawler will give a solo performance of a variety of classical pieces by European and South American composers that span several centuries — from the 17th to the 20th. The performance will include variations of Handel’s Opus 107 and Mozart’s Opus 9 by Italian composer Mauro Giuliani and Spanish composer Fernando Sor, respectively. He will also perform Chaconne in D minor from the Partita No. 2 for unaccompanied violin by Johann Sebastian Bach, Sonata No. 1 by Manuel Ponce, and Preludios Americanos by Abel Carlevaro.

Timothy Lawler has performed at Cabrillo Music Festival, with Rosa Montoya Flamenco Dance Company and with Stanford Chamber Orchestra. His records have been heard frequently on Connecticut Public Radio and other area classical radio stations. Mr Lawler built the instrument on which he performs.

The concert is expected to last one hour. Donations are invited; a $10 contribution is being suggested. For additional information, call 203-438-3789.
