Lyme Walk To Help Establish Research Center
RYE, N.Y. ââ Plans are underway for âTake Time to Walk for Lyme,â an inaugural fundraising walk to highlight the current Lyme disease epidemic and raise funds to support research for its prevention and cure.
The April 6 event will raise money toward the establishment and endowment of the Columbia University Lyme Disease Research Center, the first of its kind in the United States, which has been initiated by the Greenwich (Conn.) Lyme Disease Task Force (GLDTF), and the Lyme Disease Association, Inc.
Lyme disease patient Emily Voss and some of her fellow Rye High School students are organizing the event, which is sponsored by the GLDTF. The GLDTF has already raised and contributed $1 million of the $3 million needed to open the research center and make it fully operational.
Take Time to Walk for Lyme is a three-mile walk that starts and finishes at Rye High School. Free T-shirts will be given to the first 100 registrants and refreshments, music, and other entertainment will be provided. The entry fee is $20 for walkers age 18 and up and $15 for ages 11 to 17. Children under 10 can accompany an adult for free. Strollers and pets are welcome. Sponsorships also are available.
There will be a Lymelight Club gala at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich on April 26. For information on the gala call 203-969-1333.Â
