HIV Testing Issues Program At Danbury Hospital

DANBURY — A free lecture for physicians, nurses, and other interested health professionals on “Special Issues in HIV Testing: Partner Notification & Testing of Minors” will be offered on Friday, March 21, from 8 to 9 am, at Danbury Hospital.

The Eastern Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in Norwich, the Connecticut AIDS Education and Training Center at the Yale School of Nursing, the Pediatrics Department of Danbury Hospital, and the Connecticut AHEC Program are sponsoring the lecture.

The lecture was developed in response to participant comments and questions from “Adolescent Treatment & Prevention,” a 2002 statewide lecture series sponsored in part by Holt, Wexler & Farnum and the Statewide HIV Care Consortium/Adolescent and Child Health Workgroup of the Department of Public Health.

There is no cost to attend this program, and preregistration is not required. The program will offer Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits to qualifying participants. For more information on this program, call Erika Taylor, program coordinator, Eastern AHEC, at 860-886-1424, extension 14, or email at taylor.ahec@snet.net.

The guest lecturer for the program will be Laurie Sylla, the director of the Connecticut AIDS Education and Training Center (CAETC). CAETC develops, coordinates and implements statewide HIV/AIDS training and clinical consultation programs for clinical and service providers.

The lecture will cover the conditions under which underage patients can be given HIV counseling, testing, and treatment services, as well as the condition under which partners can be notified about the HIV positive status of patients.

The lecture is directed towards primary care providers, pediatricians, APRNs, family care providers, gynecological care providers, and school-based care providers.

The Eastern Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is part of the Connecticut AHEC Program housed at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington.
