All Books For Children:

A Reading Drive

The public is invited to donate new and gently used books for distribution to Fairfield County children at any of the Starbucks retail locations in the county during the All Books For Children Book Drive. The program was created by Starbucks and is geared toward giving children the necessary tools they need to read and succeed.

The program is in its sixth year of raising literacy awareness. This year’s drive will run March 19 through April 22. Books should be suitable for pre-K through high school-level reading. Newtown’s Starbucks is at 34 Church Hill Road.

Since the program began over one million books have been distributed through schools and literacy organizations across the country. The book drive benefits Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc, a fully integrated national network of local, state, and regional literacy providers that gives adults and their families the opportunity to acquire skills to be effective in their roles as members of their families, communities and work places.

The goal for 2003 is to collect 3,500 books in Fairfield County, and 385,000 nationwide.
