Coalition Plans Annual Meeting

DANBURY — Dr Jefferson Wiggins, author of White Cross, Black Crucifixion and The Morning Tide, will be guest speaker Wednesday, March 22, at the Annual Meeting of the Greater Danbury Coalition for a Community United. The meeting is open to the public and will be at the Rose Dick Reception Room at the United Jewish Center, 141 Deer Hill Road in Danbury.

“Minority Educators” and their importance to all students will be the theme of the event scheduled for 5 to 7 pm. There will be a diversity panel with student representatives from several schools: Nancy Berman from the Danbury Alternative Center for Education, Ridgefielder Mark Robinson of ROUND, and a representative from the Danbury School system. Audience participation will follow the panel presentation.

Light refreshments will be served. For invitations and information, contact President Barry Finch at 203/438-6575, Founder Barbara Levitt at 203/731-3404, or Immediate Past President Darlene Jackson at 426-5192.

The Greater Danbury Coalition includes, but is not limited to, Bethel, Brewster, Brookfield, Carmel, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, North Salem, Patterson, Pawling, Redding, Ridgefield, and Sherman.

The Coalition originated 10 years ago as a Community Coalition of A World of Difference and was sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith. The organization established itself as a separate not-for-profit entity in the state of Connecticut in 1995. The mission was, and is, to work toward eradicating prejudice and stereotyping.

The Coalition sponsors training programs in business, schools, human service agencies, and government establishments for youth and adults. It is in the process of making videos available on prevention of gang violence and other stereotypes and behaviors that prejudge individuals.
