Parks And Recreation Offers Canine Training Courses
Newtown Parks and Recreation offers canine training courses from mid-March through mid-April. Call the recreation office at 270-4340 for registration information. Course information is as follows (classes held at the Teen Center on Church Hill Road. Instructor is Dr Margaret Reed of Canine, Training Behavior and Training Services):
Household Dog Obedience
Dogs will learn basic sit, stay, down, come, walk skills. Dog owners will learn how to solve common behavior issues through effective and humane techniques. Prerequisite: Dogs must not be aggressive toward people or other dogs. Open to dogs 3 months of age and older.
Dog Trick Training
This 6-week course will introduce dog owners to the basic skills needed for training a wide range of tricks including âRoll Over,â âHeads Up,â to jump through a hoop, shake, crawl and bow. Special requests are welcome. Prerequisite: Dogs must not be aggressive toward people or other dogs. Recommended: Successful completion of kindergarten or a basic obedience course. Course is held on Thursdays from 7:30-8:15 pm. Cost is $150.
