More Work, Fewer Breaks
More Work, Fewer Breaks
To the Editor:
As a student of Newtown High School, I am frustrated about the recent change to the school calendar, as many others are. Upon learning of this I thought that maybe there were some benefits, such as starting later in the year, and ending earlier. Now that I have looked into this, I have realized that this change is completely unnecessary.
First off, getting rid of most of February break means that us students will have to go from January to April with few days off and no weeklong breaks. For me personally, February break is an entire week to rest and enjoy life without tests and homework (other than what was assigned over break).
My mom, Dawn, has been a long-term art substitute and was also glad to have some time off. Also, thereâs the idea of removing Veteransâ Day, Columbus Day, and Presidentsâ Day. Getting rid of Veteransâ Day is disrespecting our country and the men and woman who have served it. But Removing Columbus Day and Presidentsâ Day is less of a problem. I hope that the Board of Ed considers these points and changes the school calendar.
