Childrenâs Day Encourages
Play, Nutrition, For Kids And Parents
DANBURY â Danbury Hospital invites âchildren of all agesâ and their parents or caregivers to the 18th Annual Childrenâs Day, Saturday, March 28, from 10 am to 2 pm at the hospital. The event starts at the Praxair Regional Cancer Center lobby located on the first floor of the Stroock Building, Locust Avenue entrance, and park free in the Red Parking garage.
The purpose of this annual signature event is to promote physical activity, good nutrition, and general wellness to children in a nonthreatening way by creating a free, entertaining day of hands-on educational activities and entertainment, while at the same time introducing them to the hospital environment.
The 2008 event attracted more than 3,000 children and families. The 2009 Childrenâs Day theme âA Recipe for Fun, Food & Fitnessâ is geared toward preventing childhood obesity through physical activity and good nutrition.
This year, Danbury Hospital Childrenâs Day partners include Branson Ultrasonics, Trader Joeâs, New Fairfield Press, and other community minded businesses that helped us combine a free, fun family day complete with health care and safety education as the focus.
Special events and activities include:
*Take a tour of the Emergency and Pediatrics Departments and the Duracell Center for Ambulatory Surgery, EMS and local police department vehicles, City of Danbury hook and ladder fire truck, and the Wellness-on-Wheels (WOW) Van.
*Learn the importance of playtime and physical activity while going through an obstacle course encouraging physical activity through play.
*Visit special booths promoting Amber Alert Child ID program, âAsk-a-Pediatrician,â and face painting.
*Healthy snack preparation demonstrations and good nutrition.
*Free health screenings for kids and parents, too.
Danbury Hospitalâs 18th Annual Childrenâs Day is made possible by the generous contributions of local volunteer sponsors including the Danbury Public Schools, local police and the Danbury Fire Department, STAT Flight helicopter, (11am to noon, weather permitting), and many other civic-minded youth groups and organizations.
There will be a limited number of fun giveaways while supplies last. For more information, contact Danbury Hospital at 866-374-0007, or find out more at DanburyHospital.org.
