Eugene A. Berlingeri

Devoted Father

Eugene A. Berlingeri, 86, died March 3. He was a resident of Lockwood Lodge, Newtown, for the last few years. He was born October 18, 1923, in the Bronx, N.Y. He is survived by his two children, Mark Berlingeri of Sandy Hook and Lucy George of Brookfield; and three grandchildren, in whom he took great pride.  He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, in 2003, while they lived in Hudson, Fla.

Mr Berlingeri served in World War II in the China Burma Theater in the First Tactical Squadron, an Army/Air Force recon division, and the first of its kind. A communications expert, he often led the regular army units, setting up forward positions to call in air strikes in support of ground units.

“We will miss our Dad, his wisdom, his kindness. He battled human frailties of advancing years, but always maintained his faith in God and bright spirits,” said his family. The staff and residents at Lockwood Lodge will miss his cries of “Hallelujah” as he went about his day, always thankful for one more day on God’s good earth.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, Saturday,  March 13, at 1 pm.

Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, is assisting the family.
