Disabled Waterski Club Takes To The Snow
Leaps of Faith Disabled Waterski Club members left the lake for the snowy slopes of Mount Southington on March 3. A first-time event for the adaptive ski group found 12 skiers cutting paths through the snow. Disabilities included spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, and blindness. An adaptive ski group from Mount Sunapee, N.H., the New England Handicapped Sports Association, provided instruction and equipment for the afternoon.
Working with them were Leaps of Faith volunteers, including local skiers Alex Snow from Newtown and Kevin Eckler of Sandy Hook. Newtown and Sandy Hook volunteers also included Leaps of Faith President Joel Zeisler, Amanda Findorak, Gary Gilroy, Ken Seferi, and Kim Uniacke.
Future Leaps of Faith events include a fundraiser-safe boating course on March 27 at the Best Western in Bethel. Participants can earn their boating and personal watercraft and license during a one-day course that includes lunch. The fee is $59, and early registration s recommended.
Leaps of Faith will also host a Wounded Warrior event June 25â26 for soldiers returning from combat. For information, call 203-426-0666.
