Boy Scout Troop 370 Has Begun
Its Garden Products Fundraiser
Burt De Marche was the special guest during Boy Scout Troop 370âs meeting on March 2, when he introduced the boys to the products they will be selling during a fundraiser that will benefit their troop as well as the homes, gardens, and lawns of those who participate in the special event. This is the second year Mr De Marche is helping the troop with its annual fundraiser.
Mr De Marche, a Newtown resident and president of The Laurel Rock Company, who is arranging for the garden and landscape product, offered a presentation for the boys that introduced them to the items they will be offering for sale as well as their prices.
Available for purchase this year the following:
Premium Sun/Shade Grass Seed,               10 pounds (covers 2,500 square feet), $25; top soil for lawn, 1 cubic foot, $10; potting soil for planters, 1 cubic foot, $10; composted cow manure, 1 cubic foot, $10;
Andersonâs Lawn Fertilizer 20-4-8, 16 pounds (covers 5,000 square feet), $15; all-purpose plant fertilizer 10-10-10, 40 pounds (covers 5,000 square feet), $22;
Aged cedar mulch (dark brown), 2 cubic feet, $8; natural cedar mulch (light brown/tan), 2 cubic feet, $8; and red cedar mulch, (auburn), 2 cubic feet, $8.
The Boy Scouts began door-to-door sales last weekend, and will be doing the same each Saturday until April 3. Some Scouts may also work together to set up a sales table with samples outside their church or synagogue.
Anyone interested in placing an order who cannot locate a Troop 370 Boy Scout can contact Burt DeMarche at Burt@LaurelRock.com. All phone orders will be split evenly among all the participating Scouts.
This is the troopâs second spring garden products fundraiser. Last year the boys raised more than $2,500 for their troop through this fundraiser. The goal this year, with 50 boys participating, is to double that dollar amount.
At the same time, Boy Scout father Brent Hazzard is leading the troop through its requirements for the Salesmanship merit badge.
Scouts will earn money for every bag that they sell, which will in turn be used toward Scouting events, registrations and/or fees, such as summer camp, Jamboree, Sea Base, High Adventure, troop campouts, and annual dues.
