Applications Due For Elderly & Disabled Homeowners Program
The Assessor’s Office will be accepting applications for the Elderly and Disabled Homeowners Programs through May 15. Applications are accepted at the Assessor’s Office, at Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 am and 4:30 pm.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must own a house and be a resident of that dwelling as of October 1, 2013 to which the tax credit will be applied, be 65 years of age or over as of December 31, 2013, or be totally disabled.
Eligible applicants can have an income of $41,600 or less for a married couple or $34,100 or less for a single person. Proof of 2013 income must be provided. Such proof may include a copy of a 2013 Tax Return, if required to file one, 1099 bank statements showing interest earned, pension statements, dividend statements, or Statement of Earnings from the Social Security Administration (SSA 1099 or SSA 2458).
Homeowners who are currently on the program and need to reapply will receive a notice by mail.
