An AWE-some Lenten Experience At Newtown Congregational Church
To celebrate Lent Newtown Congregational Church is offering AWE (alternative worship experience) services each Wednesday evening until April 13.
The service involves various members of the congregation participating in dramatic interpretations of individuals who âencountered Jesus.â Services begin at 7 pm at the congregational church, 14 West Street.
âItâs certainly very different from âthe usualâ church service, and it is a major part of the Vitality Project that NCC is involved in,â said NCC and AWE Ministry member Dianna Pategas. âOur church is one of six selected out of 250 Congregational churches in Connecticut to participate in innovative programs designed to welcome the community into our doors.â
Prior to each Wednesday evening service, the community is also invited to join NCC members for a soup and bread dinner. Dinner begins at 6.
âThe worship experiences ⦠are designed to bring our awareness deeper into our faith,â said Ms Pategas. âThis series has been assembled to help us more fully prepare ourselves for and lead us into Holy Week.â
AWE Lenten offerings began with an Ash Wednesday service on March 9, and will continue March 16, 23 and 30, and April 6 and 13. All are welcome.
