Franco-American Relations & Other

Alliance Française Events

Alliance Française of Northwestern Connecticut has a few public events scheduled for the month of March. All are open to non-members and most are free of charge.

Café-Conversation sessions offer informal conversation in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The sessions will continue on Saturday, March 12, at Southbury Public Library, 561 Main Street South.

The group will be meeting in one of the library’s community rooms from 10 am until noon. Subjects are chosen by a volunteer member leader. Anyone wishing  to practice reading, pronunciation and conversation skills (or who would simply enjoy listening to the beautiful French language) is encouraged to join the group.

Participants may bring their own beverages and breakfast snacks.  In case of bad weather or for more details, call 203-266-5588.

On Saturday, March 19, at 10:30 am, in the Oak Room of Taft School (110 Woodbury Road), the group will be sponsoring a lecture by Monsieur François Delattre, the French Consul General in New York.

Monsieur Delattre will speak on “The State of Franco-American Relations,” offering his perspective on the relationship. After the lecture, Monsieur Delattre will honor Dr Yolande Bosman, head of the world languages department of Pomperaug High School in Southbury and the Honorary French Consul for the State of Connecticut, with the French National Order of Merit.

A champagne reception provided by the Alliance Française and Dr Bosman will follow. Reservations are essential and must be made by March 10 by email to Ybosman@region15.org or by calling 203-758-2042.

Cost is $15. Checks should be payable to Alliance Française of Northwestern CT, Inc., and mailed to Mrs John Vail, 240 Litchfield Road, Watertown CT 06795.

Finally, the Cinémathèque movie sessions of the spring season will show a remastered classic trilogy of Marcel Pagnol.  The first film of the series, Marius, with Raimu, will be shown on Thursday, March 31, at 7 pm.

The screenings are at Cyrenius H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street in Newtown. In case of bad weather or for more details, call 203-758-1045.
