A Dodgingtown woman was reported in good condition as a patient in Danbury Hospital midday on Wednesday, March 9, following a serious accident, in which she was struck by a car at dusk on March 3.
Linda Lubinsky, 44, of 73 Flat Swamp Road was transported to Danbury Hospital following the accident, which occurred on Flat Swamp Road near its intersection with the dead-end Jangling Plain Road.
At about 5:35 pm, as it was getting dark, motorist Justin Shemonsky, 16, of Bethel was driving a 2002 Toyota Corolla sedan northward on Flat Swamp Road. Ms Lubinsky walked into the northbound lane from the northbound road shoulder and was struck by the car, according to a police report.
Police said the impact occurred near the driveway entrance to Ms Lubinskyâs residence. The accident apparently occurred while the woman was walking on the street to retrieve mail from her mailbox, police said.
Police said Ms Lubinsky sustained two broken legs in the accident.
Dodgingtown firefighters, the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and the regional paramedic responded to the accident.
Police said the accident is under investigation. Such accident investigations often take weeks, if not months, to complete.
Of the accident, on March 9 Police Chief Michael Kehoe said motorists must be vigilant when traveling on local roads because streets carry more traffic than simply automobiles. The roads also carry pedestrians, people walking their dogs, equestrians, and motorcyclists, he said noting, âWe all have to share the roads.â
