Babe Ruth Player Evaluations

Newtown Babe Ruth Softball will be accepting late registrations (based on availability) with a $25 late fee ($125 total registration). Player evaluations will be held at Edmond Town Hall Gym on March 11 and 12 and are a requirement for all players moving up from the student division to U10, new U10 players, players moving up from U10 to U12 division, new U12 players and all U12 American League players from last year. If you meet any of the above qualifications you must attend the evaluations. The schedule is –

 

March 11             U12 Division

7 to 8 pm               Players with last names beginning A-M

8 to 9 pm               Players with last names beginning N-Z

 

March 12             U10 Division

3 to 4 pm               Players with last names beginning A-M

4 to 5 pm               Players with last names beginning N-Z

Spring Baseball Registrations

It is not too late to register for spring baseball. Newtown Babe Ruth is still accepting registrations for the spring season. Forms can be obtained at www.eteamz.com/newtownbaseball and mailed to P.O. Box 133, Newtown, 06470. The deadline to register without a late fee is March 25.

 

Sunday Slo-Pitch Softball

All teams, new and old, interested in playing in the Newtown Sunday Softball League for 2005 must contact Jim Dudeck at (203) 270-7877 or e-mail him at jdudek1846@sbcglobal.net.

 

Free Soccer Skills Clinics

The Newtown Soccer Club will be offering free skills training to registered players in the U8, U9 and U10 brackets of our in-house division. Brian Neumeyer, varsity coach for the boys’ soccer program at Newtown High School, will lead the program. The free training will be held from 4 to 5 pm on March 14 and 21 for boys. The NSC will also be offering a pre-travel training program (also to be run by Brian Neumeyer). This program is open to those players born August 1, 1995 through July 31, 1996. This program is also available to those players born August 1, 1994 through July 31, 1995 who may have tried out for travel this year and were not selected, or for those who may wish to try out for U11 in June of 2005. The cost of the program is $20 per player. Please make checks payable to Newtown Soccer Club and bring them to the first session. For both programs, all participants should bring a ball and water. Shin guards and indoor shoes or sneakers must be worn. No cleats will be permitted in the Hawley gym. The training will be held from 4 to 5 pm at Hawley School on the following Wednesdays – 16 and 23 for the boys. For further information, contact Larry Dunnigan at 426-0819 or 270-7773.

 

Adventure Racing

An Adventure Racing Clinic – featuring discussion on pre-race training, putting together a team, and choosing the correct equipment – will be held Saturday, March 12, from 10 am to 2 pm, at Eastern Mountain Sports in the Danbury Fair Mall. Call 794-1043 to register.

 

Namath/Dockery Football Camp

The annual Joe Namath/John Dockery Instructional Football Camp will be held July 10 through July 15 at Nichols College in Dudley, Massachussetts. The staff of professional instructors will include Justin McCareins, Kareem McKenzie, Erik Coleman, Victor Hobson, Chris Snee, Tim Carter, Jarvis Green and Dan Klecko. The camp is open to boys ages 8 to 18 and will feature programs on Injury Prevention & Care, Non-Contact, College Selection, Nutritional Guidance, Weight/Fitness, and Running. Blue Devils U18 Fastpitch

The Connecticut Blue Devils are seeking experienced, dedicated players for a competitive U18 fastpitch girls softball travel team. Season ends on July 29. Winter workouts are being held at a large, indoor facility. Call 203-775-3749 for further information.
