Kenneth L. Bigham, 79, died at The Springs of Watermark, Southbury, Thursday, March 6. He was born December 31, 1935, the son of Frank and Florence Grumman Bigham, and was the husband of Barbara Mann Bigham. Residents of Newtown for 40 years, the Bighams moved to Oxford Greens in 2006. 

Mr Bigham graduated from Bethel High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball all four years. After serving three years in the Army, he attended Norwalk Technical College and Bridgeport University before joining Ducci Electric Company. He spent most of his career supervising electrical work on major construction projects, including the Danbury Hospital Tower, Danbury High School, and the IBM campus in Southbury.

He was actively involved in the Newtown community, having been elected to the first Legislative Council. Mr Bigham also served on the Charter Revision Commission, the Public Building Committee, and Democratic Town Committee. He was a former member of Newtown Country Club, coached Little League, and once played a competitive tennis net game.

He loved talking about the stock market, the Red Sox, politics, and world events. He enjoyed bridge, golf, reading, growing orchids, spending time with his family, and rarely missed one of his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. 

In his retirement, Mr Bigham spent winters in Venice, Fla., and previously summered in Falmouth, Mass.

His wife; three children, Katherine Bigham Bloxsom, and husband Michael, of Brookfield, Douglas Kenneth Bigham and Judy Go of Westford, Mass., and Steven Charles Bigham and Lisa Pollard of Southbury; six adored grandchildren, Kristin and Laura Pino of Brookfield, Jamison and Karly Bigham of Westford, Mass., and Leah and Erin Bigham of Southbury; two sisters, Ann Lovell of Brookfield and Bertha Abbotts of Wells, Vt.; a sister-in-law, Dora Bigham of Danbury; two brothers-in-law, Charles Mann of Venice, Fla., and Ronald Long of St Charles, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews survive Mr Bigham.

His brother, Francis Bigham, and sister, Isabel Utter, predeceased him.

The family will greet friends at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown, on Monday, March 10, from 4 to 7 pm. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, March 11, at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street. A reception will follow in the Great Room of the church.
