Surveillance Camera

At about 3 am on February 28 in the Taunton Lake Drive neighborhood, a residential surveillance camera recorded an auto stopping in front of a house, with a person getting out of the vehicle and then checking on whether the doors were locked on the homeowner’s vehicles.

Police are investigating the incident, adding that such surveillance systems provide valuable evidence to police and have become more reliable than conventional burglar alarms.

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Diane Morrisey, 53, of Trumbull went to the police station midday on February 26 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, police said.

The warrant stems from a January motor vehicle stop during which Newtown police issued Morrisey two motor vehicle violations. After processing on February 26, police released Morrisey on $1,000 bail for a March 11 court appearance.

Thefts From Vehicles

Police report that during the overnight hours of February 19-20, multiple thefts of valuable items from unlocked motor vehicles occurred in the Brookwood Drive neighborhood in Dodgingtown.

Brookwood Drive is a long loop road near the Bethel town line that has two intersections with Poorhouse Road. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the thefts to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841 in connection with Case 20-4492.

To deter such thefts of items from vehicles and the thefts of vehicles themselves, police recommend that residents remove any valuables from vehicles, including automotive keys and electronic key fobs, and then lock such vehicles that are parked near their homes unattended overnight.

Such crimes of opportunity are easily prevented through deterrence, according to police.
