Where Were

The Dog Lovers?

To the Editor:

Newtown dog lovers should be ashamed.

The Board of Selectman met last night for the second time to layout the Policy and Procedures for Impounded Animals. This policy will include formal language for what is now a casually honored no-kill policy, a formal protocol for the decision to euthanize and a mechanism to formally mandate a behaviorist/trainer to manage/rehab difficult animals and who would participate in any decision to euthanize.

Pat Llodra indicated this policy will take its final form and be voted on by month’s end, intending resolution before the new pound is open.

As a dog lover and longtime supporter and volunteer at the pound, I was disgusted at the lack of solidarity, support, participation by the town’s “alleged” dog-loving folks given the critical significance and impact this policy will have.

Out of a population of what 28,000?, less than six or 0.02 percent could be bothered last night to show up and offer thoughtful /constructive input.

Shame on you all. I have never been so disgusted with the residents of this town. Just plain sad and pathetic.
