Hawleyville DUI

UPDATE: This charge involving Danielle Storhoff as reported in the March 9, 2012 issue of

The Newtown Bee in the Police Reports was dismissed in Danbury Superior Court, according to documents provided to the paper December 7, 2017.

Police report that while on patrol about 12:55 am on March 4, they spotted a vehicle that was partially obstructing the southbound lane of Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Old Hawleyville Road, so they investigated.

Police said they charged motorist Danielle Storhoff, 30, of Danbury with driving under the influence. After processing, police released Storhoff on $100 bail for a March 20 court appearance.

Big Y

Police report a larceny incident at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street about 6:20 pm on March 1.

Police said they received a complaint that a shopper at the supermarket had approximately $60 stolen from his or her wallet while shopping at the store.

After investigating, police said they charged Christopher Socci, 25, of 18 Crossbrook Road with sixth-degree larceny and with criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Police released Socci on $250 bail for a March 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Key Rock Road

Motorist Katelyn Kean, 17, of 137 Poverty Hollow Road, who was driving a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta sedan on Key Rock Road at about 7 am on March 2, stopped at a stop sign at that road's intersection with Sugar Street (Route 302), police said.

Motorist Christian Sellwanes, 27, of Meriden, who was driving a 2011 BMW 3-series sedan, then stopped behind the Volkswagen, police said.

The Volkswagen then started to pull out onto Sugar Street, but stopped for oncoming traffic, according to police.

The BMW also started to pull out onto Sugar Street, but its driver, Sellwanes, did not realize that the Volkswagen had stopped, and the BMW then struck the rear end of the Volkswagen, police said.

Kean was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Sellwanes received a written warning for following too closely, police said.

Jeep Vs Mercedes

A two-vehicle accident occurred on eastbound Church Hill Road at its intersection with Interstate 84 at about 3 pm on February 26.

Police said motorist Karen Ross, 54, of 36 Watkins Drive, who was driving a 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-300 sedan, slowed for a traffic signal, after which the Mercedes was struck from behind by an eastbound 2000 Jeep Cherokee SUV driven by Jeremy Currier, 23, of 2 Alpine Drive.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Currier an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Rear-Ender

At about 8:30 am on March 1, motorist Stephen Edwards, 51, of 11 Valley Field Road South, who was driving a 2004 GMC box truck, was waiting for a traffic signal on westbound Church Hill Road, near the Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84, police report.

Motorist Ashley Garzi, 26, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2008 Ford Escape SUV, was behind the GMC, police said.

The Ford then pulled forward and struck the rear end of the GMC, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Garzi a written warning for following too closely.

Glover/Queen

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Glover Avenue and Queen Street about 11:17 am on March 1.

Motorist Andrea Zaletta, 69, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2000 Volvo S-70 sedan eastward on Glover Avenue, stopped at a stop sign at that road's intersection with Queen Street, police report.

Motorist Mark Dowling, 41, of Oakville, who was driving a 2012 Ford Fusion sedan eastward on Glover Avenue, then struck the rear end of the Volvo, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said that they warned Dowling for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Infiniti Vs GMC

About 5:15 pm on March 1, police received a report concerning a two-vehicle accident that had occurred on private property at a commercial driveway at 97 South Main Street.

The accident involved motorist Susan Ruddock, 52, of  Southbury,  who was driving a 2010 Infiniti EX-35 SUV, and motorist Brandon Sharpe, 24, of Colchester, who was driving a 2007 GMC Sierra pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

  

Parking Area

At about 10:40 am on March 1, police responded to the parking lot at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street on a report of a motor vehicle accident.

The collision involved two vehicles that were traveling in the lot '" a 2007 Toyota Highlander SUV driven by Mary Anderson, 46, of 12 Lincoln Road, and a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Amy Rebecco, 31, of 40 Alpine Circle, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Queen Street

About 3:20 pm on March 1, motorist David Rose, 37, of Oxford, who was driving a 2005 Mercedes-Benz C-class sedan, was exiting the driveway at 9 Queen Street and attempting to make a left turn to head southward on Queen Street, as motorist Elizabeth Stevens, 47, of Bridgewater, was driving a 2012 Subaru Outback station wagon northward on Queen Street, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Rose a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Drug Arrest

After learning that police held a warrant for his or her arrest, a person under age 18 came to the police station on the morning of March 5 and was charged with distribution of a narcotic and with intent to sell a narcotic, police said.

Police said they then held the youth on $25,000 bail for a court appearance that day.

Police said that the March 5 arrest is a companion case to a drug arrest that they made on a warrant on February 27 in connection with an incident that occurred late last year at Newtown High School.

 In the February 27 arrest, police charged a person under age 18 with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and failure to keep prescription narcotics in their original container. Police released that person on $25,000 bail for a March 5 court appearance.

Because the two people arrested are under age 18, their identities are shielded from disclosure by state law. Also, court proceedings on such cases are closed to the public.

Highway Crash

State police report that motorist Bonnie Cusack, 60, of Hamilton Square, N.J., who was driving a 2008 Subaru Impreza westward on Interstate 84, about 1,500 feet west of Exit 10, at about 1:30 pm on March 4, fell sleep at the wheel and then crashed into some concrete barrier railing along the right road shoulder.

Neither the driver nor a passenger were injured. State police said they verbally warned Cusack for failure to drive in the established lane.

SUV Off Road

Police said that at about 7:45 pm on March 4, motorist Caroline Kingsley, 16, of 20 Maltbie Road was driving a 2003 Honda Pilot SUV southward on Brushy Hill Road, near its intersection with Cedar Hill Road, when a deer ran out in front of the vehicle.

Kingsley swerved to avoid a collision with the animal, but the Honda went off the road and struck a rock and some brush, police said.

Kingsley was not injured. Police said they verbally warned her for making a restricted turn and for failure to carry an automotive insurance identification card.

Warrant

Police report they charged Anne Robbins, 57, of 14 Pond Brook Road on a warrant on March 5 with failure to respond to an infraction and with allowing a dog to roam.

Police said that Robbins had not responded to an infraction ticket that was issued to her last August 4 for allegedly allowing a dog to roam, so a court warrant was issued against her.

Robbins was released on $92 bail for a March 20 court appearance, police said.

Vandalism

Police said they are investigating an incident in which an unspecified motor vehicle was vandalized while parked in the parking lot near the CVS store at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street at about 7 pm on March 4. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone, 203-426-5841.

Moving Violations

Police report they spotted a 2001 Ford Explorer SUV driven by Expedito Gutierrez, 49, of Danbury traveling southward on Hawleyville Road at 53 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone at about 4:50 pm on March 6, so they stopped the vehicle to investigate.

Gutierrez was charged with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended vehicle registration, police said. Gutierrez was released on a written promise to appear in court on March 20.

Brushy Hill DUI

About 7:40 pm on March 6, police responded to a report of a suspicious motor vehicle parked on the roadway on Brushy Hill Road, near Dug Hill Road.

After investigating, police charged motorist William Sullivan, 46, of Easton with driving under the influence, improper parking, failure to carry a driver's license, and failure to have automotive insurance.

While in custody at the police station, police additionally charged Sullivan with third-degree criminal mischief and with three counts of interfering with police.

Police said they held Sullivan on $500 bail for a March 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Kent House

Sometime between 11:30 am and 1:20 pm on March 6, someone climbed a fence and then broke a window at Kent House at Fairfield Hills, police said. Damage is estimated at $50. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Sandy Hook Accident

At about 3:38 pm on March 1 , motorist Louis Albert Fenaroli, 18, of 32 Winton Farm Road was driving a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria sedan and attempting to take a corner, but lost control of the vehicle, after which it rolled over at the intersection of Walnut Tree Hill Road and Alberts Hill Road, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members treated Fenaroli for injuries at the scene, but he refused transport to a hospital, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters responded to the accident.

Police said they issued Fenaroli an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, making a restricted turn, and failure to wear a seatbelt.
