Girl Scout Collecting Cake Goods To Celebrate Birthdays

Katerina Ringes, an eighth grade student at St Rose of Lima School and a Girl Scout Cadette with Troop 51160, wants to help families in need celebrate their birthdays.

Katerina is collecting cake mix, frosting, candles, cake toppers, cake decorations, balloons, birthday napkins, and plates to make “Birthday in a Box” kits as her Girl Scout Silver Award project.

She plans to pack and wrap the boxes as presents and distributed them to various food pantries and shelters in Newtown, Danbury and Bridgeport. She also plans to collect items at the Girl Scout 100th Anniversary Promise Circle Celebration scheduled for March 12 at Fairfield Hills.

Katerina picked this project because she says that she, “believes that every person deserves to have their birthday be a special day. There is currently not a project like this in our town.”

A Cadette with Troop 51160, Katerina’s Silver Project adviser is her mother, Dawn Ringes. The pair are also working with the St Rose Social Concerns Committee.

The collection dates for all the items Katerina needs is March 10 through 18. Collection locations include the St Rose Church Vestibule, until March 16, the St Rose Gathering Hall, C.H. Booth Library and Club NewFit.
