Cipolla To Present ‘Putting Yourself Back In The Narrative: Past, Present & Future Of Women In Science’
Newtown Historical Society, in partnership with C.H. Booth Library, will host Dr Cyd Cipolla for a compelling lecture, “Putting Yourself Back in the Narrative: The Past, Present, and Future of Women in Science.” The event is planned for Sunday, March 16, at 2 pm, at the library, 25 Main Street.
Dr Cipolla’s program will explore the historical and contemporary barriers women face in the fields of science and technology, building on the premise that although women have always been part of scientific progress, their accomplishments have often been erased or sidelined.
Using this history as a lens to examine modern-day challenges, Cipolla will outline strategies for creating a more equitable future for women within and seeking to enter the scientific community. From overlooked contributions to systemic obstacles, the lecture will examine how women have fought for inclusion, the progress made, and the work still ahead.
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session following the talk.
Cipolla is a scholar in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies whose research and teaching interests focus on critical making, intersectional feminist theory, and science and technology studies. A graduate of Yale University (BA) and Emory University (PhD), Cipolla is currently a Clinical Associate Professor at the NYU Steinhardt School of Media, Culture, and Communication, where she teaches her students to use hands-on engineering and technoscience as tools for critical thinking.
There is no fee to attend; donations will be gratefully accepted and forwarded to Newtown Historical Society. Light refreshments will be served.
