A Supporter Of NAA
To the Editor:
I was saddened to read Peter McLoughlin's angry letter of 2/28/17 concerning his description of progressive techniques that foster anti-American ideals, with a reference to the Newtown Action Alliance. It was difficult to understand the statistics he objected to and his logic about use of language, but his ire about the group's raising of awareness concerning the number of adults and children who are killed each year as a result of the misuse of guns was very clear.
I have been a supporter of NAA and laud their attempts to reduce our country's excessive gun violence. It's an uphill battle, especially when there is mighty resistance to actions this country can take that could mitigate the problem. I believe in the concept of commonsense gun laws and I think Connecticut moved in a good direction with its regulations on the sale, use, and possession of firearms, including its 2014 banning of certain semi-automatic firearms defined as "assault weapons." I do not think this means I am opposed to the Second Amendment, because I am not.
