The Discovery Science Fair

Over 400 students grade K-5 participated in the eighth annual Discovery Science Workshops at the Newtown High School on February 26. This exciting program, orchestrated by the Newtown Junior Woman’s Club and possible through the dedicated efforts of community volunteers and generous donations of Newtown Savings Bank, The Dock, Inc., and Taunton Press, has evolved to promote the children’s interest in the sciences.

With the children’s enthusiasm peeked the Workshops are again followed this year by the eighth annual Discovery Science Fair.

The Fair will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2000, at the Newtown High School Cafeteria, and is open to all students in Newtown grades K-5. Children are asked to bring their projects for set up between 9 and 9:45 am for a review by officials from 10:00 to 11:00 that is followed by a presentation in the lecture hall by Mad Science, ending at approximately 12 noon.

This is a non-competitive event with each participant receiving a ribbon and certificate of participation. Group projects are welcomed.

Registration forms are being distributed through the grammar schools this week or are available at the library and park & rec.
