Richard MacNab Whitcher

Richard MacNab Whitcher, 76, of Monroe, husband of 55 years to Destiny (Mengold) Whitcher, died March 7 in St Vincent’s Medical Center.

He was the father of Destiny A. Mosher and Thomas Whitcher, of Newtown.

Born in Bartlett, N.H., to Earle and Elfreda (MacNab) Whitcher, he was a resident of Monroe for 57 years. He had worked as a plumbing and heating contractor and was owner of Whitcher Plumbing & Heating. Mr Whitcher was a member of Monroe Congregational Church, Washington Lodge #19, of which he was past master, the Scottish Rite, Pyramid Temple Shrine, Order of the Eastern Star #103, and the Police Square Club. He enjoyed camping and was past vice president of the Berkshire Travelers.

In addition to his wife, daughter and son, he is survived by two other sons, Richard Whitcher of Harrisburg, N.Y., and Harry Whitcher of Monroe; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Madeline Balogh of San Jose, Calif. and Joanna Trecarten of Bartlett, N.H.; two brothers, Arthur Whitcher of Randolph, Mass. and David Whitcher of St Johnsbury, Vt.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to greet his family on Friday, March 10 from 4 to 8 pm in the Lesko-Miner Funeral Home, 155 Main Street (Route 25) in Monroe. Committal will be private and at the convenience of his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Monroe Congregational Memorial Fund, 34 Church Street, Monroe, CT 06468, or the Masonic Home & Hospital, Masonic Avenue, Wallingford, CT 06492.
