Struck Mailbox And Tree
Newtown Police report Michael Wilkowski, 73, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2011 Nissan Rogue, was traveling northbound on Shady Rest Boulevard at 9:59 pm February 18. Wilkowski’s vehicle went left off the roadway and the front driver’s side of the vehicle struck a mailbox on Deer Trail before hitting a tree. The vehicle traveled several feet northbound on the roadway before coming to a stop.
No injuries were reported.
Wilkowski was issued an infraction for making a restricted turn.
Hit Stopped Car
Newtown Police report Lindsey Johnson, 30, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2010 Toyota Corolla, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 8:11 am February 21. Lindsey Goodwick, 39, of Scappoose, Ore., operating a 2015 BMW 327xi Sulev, was stopped at a stop sign on Church Hill Road, preparing to turn right on to Main Street when the front passenger’s side bumper of Johnson’s vehicle struck the rear driver’s side bumper of the BMW.
No injuries were reported.
Johnson was issued a written warning for following too closely, resulting in an accident.
Fender Bender In Parking Lot
Newtown Police report Robert Jacobs, 74, of Newtown, operating a 2005 Toyota Highlander, was stopped at a stop sign behind a 2017 Toyota Camry operated by Carolyn Tassitano, 47, of Monroe at 3:59 pm February 23. Both vehicles were waiting to make a right onto South Main Street from the parking lot of 228 South Main Street. As Tassitano’s vehicle began to move forward into traffic, Jacobs’ vehicle also began to move forward and the front of his vehicle struck the back of Tassitano’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was taken as the collision occurred on private property.
Following Too Closely
Newtown Police report Marianne Pendergast, 57, of Southbury, operating a 2013 Nissan Rogue, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 4:34 pm February 23. Cynthia Minor, 63, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Honda HR-V EX, was stopped in traffic on Church Hill Road ahead of Pendergast’s vehicle. The front bumper of Pendergast’s vehicle struck the rear bumper of Minor’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. No visible damage was done to either vehicle.
Perdergast was given a verbal warning for following too closely resulting in an accident.
Impatience At Light
Newtown Police report Tracy Ryan, 47, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2011 Toyota Sienna, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road and stopped for traffic at 7:34 am February 24. Mai Tran, 44, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2015 Subaru Outback, was traveling westbound and stopped for a red light. While at the red light, Ryan began to move forward and the front of her vehicle struck the rear of Tran’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Ryan was given a written warning for following too closely, resulting in an accident.
Parking Lot Incident
Newtown Police report Rose Willus, 70, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Nissan Rogue, was parked in a marked parking space in the parking lot of 6 Queen Street at 7:21 pm February 24. Rebekah Brady, 22, of Newtown, operating a 2016 Nissan Sentra, was parked in a marked parking space across the travel lane from Willus’ vehicle.
Both vehicles began backing up at the same time. Both vehicles stopped briefly, and then began backing up again. Both vehicles again stopped. Brady began to back up again as Willus hesitated. Brady was three-quarters of the way into the travel lane when Willus began to back up. The back driver’s side bumper of Willus’ vehicle made contact with the front driver’s side bumper of Brady’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was taken as the collision occurred on private property.
Illegal Use Of Credit Card
Newtown Police report Thomas Asante, 31, of Danbury, was arrested at 3:45 pm February 26 on an outstanding arrest warrant, on the charges of receipt of goods from illegal use of a credit card, illegal use of a credit card over $500, and third-degree identity theft.
He was released on a written promise to appear with a court date of March 15 in Danbury Superior Court.
Drunk Driving Charge
Newtown Police report Jaime Lynn Krajewski, 45, of Monroe, operating a 2012 Honda CR-V, was traveling westbound on Meadow Brook Road at 5:08 pm February 26. Krajewski’s vehicle crossed over the center line, across the eastbound lane, striking the snow embankment on the left side. The vehicle then continued back into the roadway, returning to the westbound lane.
Judy Giordano, 75, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Hyundai Tucson, was traveling eastbound on Meadow Brook Road, and observed Krajewski’s collision and came to a stop in the eastbound lane. Police say Krajewski’s vehicle, while approaching Giordano’s vehicle, crossed back over the center line from the westbound lane, making an illegal turn into the eastbound lane, and struck Giordano’s vehicle front end to front driver’s side. Krajewski’s vehicle continued from the collision across a driveway and came to rest against a tree on the front passenger’s side.
Minor injuries were treated by emergency medical responders, but neither was transported to a hospital, the report stated.
Krajewski was placed under arrest for operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs and making a restricted turn.
Collision At Restaurant
Newtown Police report Robert Rossomando, 51, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 GMC Sierra K1500 Denali, was backing out of a marked parking space at My Place Restaurant at 8:29 pm February 26. Maria Olmos, 47, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Toyota Rav4 HV Limited, was driving westbound in the parking lot of My Place Restaurant. While Rossomando was backing out, the left rear section of his vehicle struck the left front section of Olmos’ vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was taken as the incident occurred on private property.
Traffic Stop Leads To DUI Arrest
Newtown Police report that at 3:17 am February 27, while on routine patrol, officers conducted a traffic stop on Berkshire Road. Upon further investigation, Daniel Champagne, 22, of Shelton, was arrested for failure to maintain lane and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Champagne was released on a $500 bond with a court date of March 15 in Danbury Superior Court.
DUI Arrest
Newtown Police report Jodi Walker, 65, of Newtown, was arrested at 10:25 pm February 27 on the charge of illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. She was released on a $500 bond with a court date of March 9 in Danbury Superior Court.
Swerved For Deer
Newtown Police report Kyanna Edwards, 22, of Waterbury, operating a 2018 Toyota Camry, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road near Misty Vale Deli at 4:40 am February 27, when a deer ran into the roadway. Edwards swerved right to avoid the deer and hit a guardrail off the roadway.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was taken.
Parking Spot Scrape
Newtown Police report Caryn Golden, 77, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Subaru Outback Limited, was pulling into a parking space in front of Carraluzzis, 5 Queen Street, at 12:52 pm February 27. As Golden moved into the spot, it struck a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse owned by Christopher Giordano of Greenwich. Police say the right front of Golden’s vehicle scraped along the rear left of Giordano’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was taken as the incident occurred on private property.
Right Of Way Infraction
Newtown Police report Thomas Benedetto, 82, of Newtown, operating a 2010 Nissan Frontier, was stopped on Elm Drive at the intersection of South Main Street at 2:35 pm February 27. Robert Jacobs, 74, of Newtown, operating a 2005 Toyota Highlander, was traveling southbound on South Main Street. Benedetto entered the intersection ahead of Jacobs. The front passenger side of Jacobs’ vehicle made contact with the front driver’s side of Benedetto’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Benedetto was issued an infraction ticket for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.
Hit Parked Vehicle
Newtown Police report Mary Allaire, 82, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, was driving in the parking lot of St Rose Church on Church Hill Road at 1:48 pm February 28. While pulling into an unoccupied spot, Allaire took the turn too wide and scraped against a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu owned by The Verdi Construction Company of Newtown.
No enforcement was issued as the incident occurred on private property.
Arrested On Larceny Charges
Newtown Police report Jonathan Garces, 27, of Yonkers, N.Y., was arrested at 6:30 pm February 28 on the charges of fourth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, third-degree robbery, and third-degree assault. He was released on a $50,000 bond with a court date of March 15.
Unregistered Uninsured Car
Newtown Police report Frank Westervelt, 52, of Wallingford, was arrested at 12:40 pm March 1 on the charges of operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to display license plates, illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, and illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of March 15.
Rolled Vehicle
Newtown Police report Raul Caceres, 48, of Bethel, operating a 2004 Toyota Tacoma, was traveling southbound on Hattertown Road at 6:46 am March 2. Caceres swerved right and the right side tire of his vehicle collided with the curbing off the right side of the road. The vehicle continued off the right side of the roadway and rolled onto its driver’s side.
No injuries were reported.
Caceres was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.
Resisting Arrest
Newtown Police report Casey Prall, 32, of Newtown, was arrested at 7 am March 2 on the charges of interfering with an officer/resisting arrest and assault of safety/EMT/transit or health officials. He was held on a $50,000 bond with a court date the same day.
