With Tom Brenner

On Wednesday, March 12, at 7:30 pm, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown will have a demonstration in pastel painting by Tom Brenner of Fairfield. Mr Brenner will be working from a still life which he will set up.

This meeting is open to the public and will be in the lower meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown (at the flagpole). Admission is free.

Mr Brenner graduated from Yale University with a BFA in 1974. Following graduation he spent six months traveling and drawing in northern India and Nepal. He then completed two subsequent years of study at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif.

This was followed by six years as a partner in an animation studio, and five years working in the field of children’s book illustration. He continues to freelance in these two areas and also in portraiture.

Since 1980 Mr Brenner has exhibited widely in the Northeast and has had one-person shows at Fairfield University and The Discovery Museum in Bridgeport. Among the awards he has received are the Grumbacher Gold Medallion for painting and the Connecticut Pastel Society Award.

Mr Brenner currently teaches pastel and portrait painting courses at Silvermine School of the Arts, and color Theory and computer graphics at Gibbs College. He is represented by Powers Gallery in Acton, Mass., Geary Gallery in Darien, and by Frank and Jeff Lavaty Associates in New York City.
