Work Day At Devil’s Den

WESTON — Saturday, March 18, from 1 to 4 pm, has been scheduled as the first work day of 2000 to get the trails of Devil’s Den Preserve, a 1756-acre nature preserve owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy and located on the Weston/Redding border, in tiptop shape for the many visitors who will come to walk them this spring.

Work days are an easy way for people to make an immediate difference to the safety and appeal of the preserve. They are especially appropriate for those who like to work outside on some lighter maintenance projects. Each three-hour session is also a great way for participants to meet like-minded people who care about the environment and who can fit into their busy schedules this one-time commitment to improve some of the more than 21 miles of trails in the preserve.

Volunteers do not need to be experienced at trail maintenance. All work is supervised, and all tools are provided. Participants need only to wear work shoes and gloves and work clothes. They should meet at the map shelter in the preserve parking lot at the end of Pent Road in Weston.

Volunteers should call The Den office, at 203/226-4991, weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm for registration, directions, and further information. The more volunteers who sign up, the more work can be accomplished at this nature preserve, where the trails and public programs are free.
